First-Ever Ozzy Day was a Huge Success as Fans Gathered in Birmingham

The celebration comes one year after the death of the heavy metal legend. Thousands of fans gathered together to celebrate the legacy and music of the Black Sabbath frontman. Rather than being a day of sadness, 22 July was a joyous occasion, as fans travelled from as far as Mexico. Black Sabbath T-shirts filled Birmingham's streets, and tributes poured in.

A City United by Heavy Metal

One of the busiest locations was New Street Station. Bostin Brass opened the celebration with a brass-band rendition of Iron Man. This took place beneath Ozzy the Bull, which sported Ozzy's trademark round sunglasses specifically for the occasion.

Fans also queued for a commemorative Polaroid photograph, while the Birmingham Music Archive recorded memories and personal stories so Ozzy Day could be remembered by future generations.

The Black Sabbath Bench and Bridge was filled with handwritten messages, photographs and flowers, while shoppers at the Bullring heard a number of Black Sabbath classics performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Ozzy's Legacy Lives On

Tributes extended far beyond Birmingham. In Los Angeles, Ozzy Osbourne's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was covered with purple flowers, candles and memorial cards.

Sharon Osbourne encouraged everyone to play his music loud, while Tony Iommi shared his own heartfelt message, saying there would never be another Ozzy Osbourne.

The numbers behind Ozzy's career show why his influence has yet to be matched. As a solo artist, he sold 56.6 million equivalent album units, with Crazy Train surpassing one billion streams on Spotify alone. Across his career, he also won five Grammy Awards, cementing his legacy as one of the most successful and influential figures in rock and heavy metal history.

Ozzy Osbourne's Final Show at Back to the Beginning

There were exactly 17 days between Ozzy Osbourne's final concert and his death. Back to the Beginning was a monumental heavy metal concert that sent waves through the metal community. It featured the original lineup of Black Sabbath, who reunited to raise millions for local charities. The sold-out, open-air send-off celebrated the roots of heavy metal and featured Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, who played together on stage for the first time in 20 years.

The star-studded line-up featured performances from Metallica, Slayer, Guns N' Roses, Gojira and many more. The proceeds from the concert were divided between Acorns Children's Hospice, Cure Parkinson's and Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Birmingham's Loudest Tribute Yet

From brass bands and orchestras to people singing Black Sabbath songs at the top of their lungs, Birmingham's very first Ozzy Day demonstrated how the city is still deeply connected to the man who helped shape the world of heavy metal.

The event wasn't just about remembering Ozzy; it was about honouring his larger-than-life personality, humour and music, which will no doubt continue to inspire future generations.
