Kanonenfieber Use Real WWI Soldier's Letters for New Song Meine Lieben

The track was created as a result of the band's Soldatenschicksale project, where fans are invited to share the stories of ancestors who served during the war. After reviewing hundreds of submissions, one stood out among the rest.

The story of Philipp Schopp.

He was a Hessian infantryman whose descendants compiled his complete wartime correspondence.

Everything was meticulously organised, including field postcards and letters. The band based "Meine Lieben" on Schopp's own words.

The lyrics draw inspiration from the final postcards he sent home, offering a personal glimpse into the thoughts of a young soldier fighting in one of the bloodiest battles in history.

Philipp Schopp was killed by shellfire in 1916 before he could return home. In his memory, his family preserved his letters for over a century, meaning his story survived long after the war ended.

Kanonenfieber thanked Schopp's descendants and said how extraordinary the family history is, adding that they hope the song gives him the remembrance he deserves.

Since forming in 2020, the German project has earned widespread acclaim for creating music rooted in historical stories, drawing inspiration from military records, diaries, letters, postcards, and other sources.

"Meine Lieben" once again demonstrates just how powerful these stories can be.

The song is available now on streaming platforms, with the official lyric video also available on the band's YouTube channel.

Today, the band announced that they will perform at Wacken Open Air 2027, appearing on the main stage for the first time in their career. Noise, the vocalist for the band, has openly said that he’s been to Wacken ten times in his life, and spent many days camping on the Holy Ground as a fan.

He’s proud to say that the band have now been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hold Kanonenfest on the main stage, which is a huge deal.
