Local Guitarists can Now Earn Royalties from Guitar Tones via STL Tones

STL Tones have announced that they are now expanding their programme, which allows Lancashire musicians to earn recurring income from the sounds they create.

Some of the artists who have had their tones featured include Bring Me The Horizon and Converge. Daniel Braunstein of Spiritbox has also had his tones featured. The programme is now open to the wider community, giving local artists the chance to upload their guitar tone to the ToneHub. 

For mixing and mastering chains, the ControlHub is also accepting submissions. Creators receive royalties when someone downloads the preset, which creates a passive source of revenue for players who have creative or distinctive sounds. STL Tones have announced that, so far, $2.5 million in artist royalties have been paid out.

The move reflects a big shift in the music industry, where musicians are looking to diversify their income beyond touring and streaming. Digital products, educational content, and preset packs have become great ways for artists to generate recurring revenue while being able to share their expertise with fellow musicians.

The Growing Popularity of Amp Modelling

ToneHub offers subscribers to the platform 7,000 captured guitar tones, while allowing people to upload and share their own creations with the community. As more musicians contribute, players will gain access to even more sounds that span different genres and playing styles.

Initiatives like the one from STL Tones highlight how musicians are looking to monetise their skills beyond making albums and live performances.
