Preston Band Ward XVI Celebrate Incredible Chart Success with ID3NTITY

5 Aug 2026

Lancashire horror-metal band Ward XVI have celebrated a huge milestone, with their latest studio album ID3NTITY.

The album reached No. 40 on the Official Album Sales Chart, cementing the band’s position as one of the most exciting metal acts to come out of the North West.

The achievement is a huge milestone and step forward for the Preston-based band, who blend heavy riffs with horror storytelling and unforgettable performances. Over the years, they have built an incredibly loyal following.

From Underground Concept Album to National Chart Success

Ward XVI's journey began in July 2017 with the release of The Art of Manipulation. The concept album introduced fans to the character of Psychoberrie, a serial killer who was imprisoned in Ward XVI. By combining cinematic storytelling with theatrical performances, the band was quick to carve a unique identity within the UK metal scene. They have expanded their dark narrative over the years, which culminated in the release of ID3NTITY, which was promoted by Earache Records.

ID3NTITY served as the final chapter in Psychoberrie’s story, and featured tracks like We Are Legion and Blood is the New Black. The record landed at No. 10 in Metal Hammer’s Reader’s Poll and helped to expose the band to a much bigger audience.

A Landmark Year for Ward XVI

The latest chart positions add to a remarkable list of achievements for Ward XVI.

The success of ID3NTITY is evident:

No. 2 on the Official Independent Breakers Chart

No. 6 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums Chart

No. 10 in Metal Hammer's Albums of the Year readers' poll

No. 40 in the Official Albums Sales Chart

No. 10 in the Official Album Downloads Chart

Reflecting on the success of their latest album, the band released a statement saying they never expected to break into the UK’s Top 40.

To celebrate the album’s release, Ward XVI have made their latest album, ID3NTITY, available to download for free on their Bandcamp page. This gives long-term supporters and new listeners the chance to experience the conclusion of Psychoberrie's story.

Reaching the Official Charts is a testament to how far Ward XVI have come, and with such a devoted fanbase and growing recognition, the future is brighter and bloodier than ever.

Ward XVI are currently taking their show to numerous locations across the UK, including:

August 7: Firevolt Rock Festival, Stockport

August 12: Boomtown Fair, Winchester

September 26: New Metal Festival, Wrexham

October 23: Slammer MCR, Manchester Rebellion
